Milk & Vitamins
Milk is a highly nutritious food that offers us a range of health benefits. Milk is generally well known for its link to bone health and maintenance, due to its calcium content. But many people forget about the other underlying factors and nutrients available from each serve that milk provides us.
Milk offers a range of vitamins that help keep the body functioning and strong. Vitamins are important as they help support the body with metabolism co-factors, oxygen transport and healthy functioning of many of the bodies processes.
Milk contains the following vitamins:
- Vitamin B12: usually only found in an animal origin and is an essential vitamin. Vitamin B12 is needed to support brain and nerve functioning, production of red blood cells and helps regulate DNA.
- Riboflavin or Vitamin B2: another essential nutrient that helps the healthy functioning of the human body. Riboflavin helps the body convert carbohydrates into adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Other roles of vitamin B2 include helping the eyes, nerves, muscles and skin stay healthy, hormone production and also maintaining the mucus membranes in the digestive system.
- Vitamin A: helps protect our eyes from night blindness and age-related issues. It also helps us support our immune system. Helping the production and function of white blood cells and also supporting our reproduction system maintain optimal health.
- Milk is sometimes fortified with vitamin D or goat milk is a natural source of vitamin D. Calcium and vitamin D are a match made in heaven. Vitamin D not only helps support our bone growth and health, but it also plays a role in our immune system, brain health and regulating healthy insulin levels.
One of the best things about milk is its provides a combination of nutrients to support a healthy and well balanced diet. All these nutrients help to benefit each other in the body and help support our needs for growth and maintenance.
